Although modern browsers support any font hosted on a website, older browsers only support fonts that are installed on the operating system (platform) used to view the website. When designing a website there are a number of platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac, Tablet, Mobile.) and browsers (Opera, Firefox, Safari, Froyo, Internet Explorer.) to consider.
